The guy in the video claims that he knows a method to disable a faulty memory bank. This 3080 had a ripped of memory modul at bank C and to check if the card had no other issues, he flashed a custom vbios to then be able to boot it into windows. At 9:00 GPU-Z shows that the 3080 has 8GB of ram because he disabled bank C This is fake...no?  |

if it not fake... I'm really interested in benchmark videocard without memory chip/s .if it make from 3080 something like 3050-3060 it funny but uselless... |

I am curious if this trick works when you have a faulty memory controller. I guess that everyone could “fix” RAM issues using MATS and that tool to edit the bios. You don’t even need a soldering iron. Also … it has something to do with LAPSUS$ incident? |

I have never heard of it until this YT movie. What I know and it it was widely discussed, some time ago there was a leak of Nvidia internal network data, a hacking group broke into Nvidia's network and stole everything so there were probably private keys for signing/encrypting bios and drivers. Presented YouTube movie is probably based on a software somebody already wrote. Nvidia chip is like FPGA, configurable and if there is a leaked documentation and source code than someone could discover the possibility of the buss width configuration. It will be a game changer for faulty controllers with for example 33/64 errors in a channel. Many of them became donors but maybe could be resurrected. This software probably edits the actual bios and writes it back or some sort of this operation. Posted after 23 minutes 6 seconds: The PCI subsystem changes, this is strange. Maybe it is the requirement for the card with less memory to work with windows drivers? Or maybe he uses known bios from a card with bank C already disabled so he uses firmware from the similar card but with 8GB. 10DE.1455 -> 1458.406E GPU:1440MHz / MEM:1188MHz It looks like one of the mobile versions with 1458:xxxx https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/231 ... 192-201207 I may be wrong but each bios may belong to a different card with different disabled bank due to fabrication error. Such bios is suitable maybe for test only but who knows. |

Все верно говорите. В этой утечке я даже нашел каким образом ID чипа завязан на прошивке, а именно ID чипа умножается на его контрольную сумму на выбранном алгоритме и получаемый ECID зашивается в VBIOS. Так что подмена ECID с последующей подписью открывает некоторые возможности для маневра. |

I think he uses mobile bios, I can't find this particular bios on the Techpowerup but the first section points to the mobile 8GB chips and probably by coincidence there are such graphic boards which have empty or not used bank C. Probably by coincidence. If he had bios editor he could generate, encrypt and sign the bios based on the bios inside the card under repair. He uses 1458:xxxx which means definitely mobile 8GB. Now we have to wait for somebody with 3080 to test it. When I get such card for repair I will test all 8GB bios files I will find and I will add a comment here... |

Not exactly. Look at his screen. Flasher reported 10DE.1455 -> 1458.406E so he changed 10DE.xxxx to 1458.xxxx and 1458 it is Gigabyte but mobile 8GB. |

Congratulations, good finding. This is exactly this Subsystem Id: 1458 406E. Both cards are 10GB. So there are two possibilities: 1. This YouTube movie is misleading, I mean fake reflashing just for the purpose of this film or 2. There is a way to disable a bank. If the (2) is true it will repair 33 errors by disabling a single chip or the whole bank. I have so many of such cards in 3 conditions - drivers do not install - drivers install ok but artifacts in furmark or desktop - a few cards work properly games close randomly, such cards sometimes mine ETH without problems. |

Turns out its not fake but only works on RTX 3070 80 and 90 |
