Hello, i have a strange problem here. Got this Alienware 17 R3 , charged the battery and laptop stars no problems. entered the test mode and all went well. Got 240W original charger from DELL ( 19.5V 12.3A ) plugged the charger in and laptop was charging battery , however at coil PL701 i had only 16.5V (same as on source of the mosfer pq703 Started test again but got error on DELL test ( charger not detected ) Entered the bios and 240W charger was there. Kept laptop plugged in on the charger all night and next day tried to turn it on, but no luck. Disassembled it and checked voltages. There is only 0.09V on the PL701 coil now and on the mosfet pq703 , also getting some low signal at the gate (0.2 / 0.3V ) Problem is, i dont have short to ground on that coil, or any other coil. i have soldered wire and plugged it directly from Power Supply ( LAB ) and put 19V there, no power consumption at all. When i press the power button i get power consumption of 0.1A for about 1 second and gone, agian no current draw. I have suspected on the charger to be faulty and destroyed the BQ24780S chip ? i have measured 1.6V on the central pin , i have never measured voltage on central pin on DELL charger above 130w , but on 65w i had like 0.1V and on 130w i had 0.04V Is this voltage OK? I have already replaced BQ24780S battery charger chip with no luck. Same shit again. Main issue is that i only have 6.5OHM resistance on GATE/SOURCE on both mosfet pq707 and pq701 ( removed both mosfets and checked resistance and it is normal ) , however board resistance is still 6.5OHM from gate to source. I dont have schematics for this motherboard and i dont know dell motherboards so well to solve this without schematics. Any help? Any schematics? I have uploaded a lot of pictures. |

I hope that you did not connect 19v on the central contact of the DC-IN connector , it could damage EC (in DELL DALLAS EEPROM for definition of type of the adapter is used) |

OK, news. still havent found the problem. However i have added 19.5V directly to B+ power rail and laptop would not start, after that i plugged in the charger together with 19.5V from my LAB power supply and laptop starts and works with no problems. Now, any ideas? Like ive said, no power rail is shorted to ground, it must be some voltage comparator , some controller or something that is not working correctly. If anyone has a clue, i would be very grateful :D PS. more thoughts ... ive heard that the DELL charger has some EEPROM that tells the EC what charger is plugged in, also ive heard that it is possible that the Alien 17 r3 will not start if the battery is removed since it is integrated battery? Could it be possible that the battery is defective and that laptop will not charge the battery since it is defect ( or battery also has eeprom which is defective ) , and it stops B+ if the battery is defect ( or unplugged ) I rarely work with DELL machines ( i dont like them at all , and i believe that DELL is doing its best just to [цензура] up all the repair attempts on their laptops - Something like Apple does ) FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!!! |

I think at you the charger/battery is faulty. Having given a power supply on B+ there are no correct signals of ACDET and ACOK with bq24780. Without battery it should start. Try to power on holding the Fn key (test mode) or key D (lcd test). The Alienware Echo 15R2 / 17R3 is offered with a 3-pin 180W / 240W adapters. |

Retarded Alienware. This is one strange shit going on here :D what did i do? on first picture, on gate i added 19v, laptop turns on without battery and has 0.22V on BAT++ Once turned on it started drawing 0.4 A current and shut down. After i removed gate voltage from mosfet: Now, turns on on charger only - battery voltage is 11.26V / nominal is 14.8V does not charge battery, when plugged charger and battery and laptop is off - 19.9V on the coil where i had 0.22V without battery. When turn on laptop, and with battery, there is only battery voltage 11.26V present, but no charging. This is some deep shit going on here. This is what i had on BQ24780S before i added gate voltage to the mosfet (on the picture mosfet is removed , but it is present now ) I do have 3x 3.3V on the battery connector and 3x 0.22v when battery is unplugged (means the battery is able to communicate. Could it be possible now that the battery is defective, or the battery controller is defective inside the battery? I dont know how the [цензура] i can have 19.9V when battery is plugged in, and laptop turned on on that COIL? Means something is fucked up with the BQ24780s ?? or battery fucked up? Long live mother RUSSIA!!! edit: once the battery is plugged in , only 2x 3.3V remain, does it mean that the battery fails to communicate with the EC , could be EC dead or damaged or the battery controller dead or damaged? How can i test this? |
