Hi,

I have a Asus Dual RX580 8GB with Hynix memory and cannot figure out what is the problem with the card, it fails at driver init with:

[ 6.941275] amdgpu: [powerplay] SMU load firmware failed
[ 6.941303] amdgpu: [powerplay] fw load failed
[ 6.941321] smu firmware loading failed
[ 6.941340] amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: amdgpu_device_ip_init failed
[ 6.941364] amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: Fatal error during GPU init

Till now I didn't encounter this problem and I am trying to get a second opinion before starting to unsolder stuff of the board.
I already replaced the BIOS chip, flashed multiple bioses, no results. All voltages are there and thinks look overall ok.

I'am not sure what this SMU is, from my knowledge the only firmware on the card is the bios, there is no other chip that has a flash.

The main question is if the GPU chip is dead or maybe I should look somewhere else before calling it dead.

Hi Seminenko,

I can read the flash using amdflash on both windows and linux, also program it. I already changed the BIOS chip to make sure it's good.

Currently my scope has died and the new one should arrive in a couple of days.

@westcoast: resistances look good, similar to other cards. I don't have an exact same card to compare but very close to other brands.

Check PM. Do you have "failed to send message 254 ret is 0" line in dmesg?
