Gigabyte rx 480 gaming G1 with blown fuse at 12 volt rail coming from pci-e. resistance to ground is short. no other shorts at the boatd. somebody can give a hint what will be the main causes of that short?

It can be as simple as capacitor 10uF/16V or something more complicated, VRAM, Mosfet. You need to inject 0.7V and watch what is going hot on the thermal cam. First take a good quality, sharp pictures of both sides in high resolution and without glare.

Do u think it could be mosfets or vram? I have all volts are fine. I think a little bit less than normal. vcore exits as 0.7 and crystal heats up takes few seconds longer than normal to heat up. also I have vram 0.7v. I'm missing only the 12v of pci-e. do u think it maybe a bad capacitor only? or this drop in vcore and vram volts from 0.9 to 0.7 reflects something? I'll do pictures for both side. do you have laboratory power supply?, if yes then you can connect 1/2V to the place where you have short circuit. and check with clean alkohol or even finger.

You can also check the gates of the mosfets with your multimeter.

if you will have short circuit in the place which i tag you then disassemble the mosfet and check the 12V line if the resistance comeback to normal.

I've an update, I found short mosfet as you adviced. I replaced it and I no longer have short on the 12v line pci e. unfortunately, I lost the 1.8v and consequence volts I don't know why. so disappointed. any advice?

can you make a picture and mark the resistans and voltages that you have?.
Remember that always after replacing mosfet you have to exchange the driver(on this card he is on the back)

Check the white fuse if it s not broken(close to PCIE).

I checked the fuse is good now. I've the 12v pci e now which I didn't have before, no short on line, I justed replaced one mosfet and I didn't replace the driver yet. I'm having the volts, 12v main, 5 volts, 12 pci e and 3.3v. I'm missing the 1.8v and the rest following pex, vcore, vram and v ram controller. what surprised me I was missing only the 12v pci-e and I had the rest but they had a little bit drop like 0.7v on vcore. when I changed the mosfet, I'm getting no 1.8v which is so wired. by the way, I followed the GS7103 I've vcc and vin and I'm missing en and 1.8 vout. so my problem is missing 1.8v_en now. npn transitors giving the signal they are good. I'm trying to follow that signal back. I'll send photos when I go home

what resistance do you have on 1.8v ?

on pin 1.8v it's high. but on pin EN it's low 700 ohms which supposed to be high (10k). Any idea?

Such situation should not have happened. You lost 1.8V after replacing mosfet.


Which mosfet did you replace? Can you post an image with a new mosfet?
